Biography

Ahmed Attout has more than 23 years of working experience within the African continent, with a track record in originating, structuring, leading, and closing operations and projects in the financial sector, infrastructure development, and capital markets within the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently Ahmed heads the Financial Institutions Group of the AfDB in charge of developing Africa’s financial sector, focusing on financial inclusion and intermediation, trade facilitation, deepening and developing domestic markets and improving the continent’s access to capital markets. His multidisciplinary team is responsible for the structuring and executing a broad range of financial sector related operations for African governments, corporates, SMEs, regional specialized funds, banks, and non-bank financial institutions. To date, Ahmed has led the execution and closing of various transactions with a combined value in excess USD 4.5 billion and in more than 35 African countries using various funded and unfunded AfDB instruments capable of mobilizing and crowding in private capital and institutional investors into both the sovereign and non-sovereign space.

Prior joining the AfDB in 2010, AA was a Corporate Finance Officer at Société General Bank – Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa – and Banque Audi. Ahmed holds an MSc in Management of International Development from the University of Turin – Italy.
