Biography

Philip is responsible for the structuring and financing of Solarcentury’s PV and Hybrid projects across Africa with emphasis towards utility size projects and mining clients. He is a CFA Charterholder, with more than 10 years’ experience in the banking and energy sector within Africa. Before joining Solarcentury he held the role of Finance Manager: Projects with the Zimbabwe Power Company where he played a key role in the development, structuring and financial close of the US$1.5 billion, 600MW Hwange Expansion Project and also post financial close management of the US$533m 300MW Kariba Extension Project. Both projects involved funding participation of various international and regional debt and equity partners. Amongst other large ticket size transactions, he worked on, he also successfully led the negotiations and structuring of a syndication transaction of ZAR650 million and US$60million, which was then refinanced through another US$40m transaction. Philip also held the role of Project, Corporate and Structured Finance Manager with the main Development Finance Institution in Zimbabwe. In this role he was instrumental in the structuring and floating of various bond issuances ranging from US$15m to US$50m for energy distribution and generation projects within Zimbabwe. He is a past fellow of the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship and is also a Prince2 Practioner.
