Biography

Ed is responsible for oversight of the Investment Strategy of AIIM’s pan-African fund mandates including origination, structuring and execution of investment opportunities for AIIM managed funds.

Ed joined AIIM in 2014 and has in excess of two decades experience in emerging markets private equity, corporate and infrastructure finance, and financial services. He has overseen transactions comprising more than USD 500 million in equity for AIIM across multiple sectors including renewable energy, digital infrastructure and mobility and logistics. Recent investments include: a USD 90 million commitment to NOA Group Holdings, a vertically integrated platform providing net-zero energy solutions for C&I customers in South Africa, the USD 100 million acquisition of The Logistics Group, an integrated ports and logistics operator in Southern Africa, a USD 130 million funding round for Eastcastle Infrastructure, a build-to-suit towers operator in the DRC and Nigeria and a USD 90 million investment in Metrofibre Networx, a fibre connectivity provider in South Africa.

Prior to AIIM, Ed was an Executive Director in the Advisory and Infrastructure Finance group at Standard Chartered Bank, where he completed a range of project finance and advisory mandates in transportation, telecoms, and energy infrastructure. He was also previously employed by Deloitte as a consulting Actuary to several European financial services groups.

Ed represents AIIM as a Director on the boards of NOA Group Holdings, Eastcastle Infrastructure, The Logistics Group, MetroFibre Networx, Onix Data Centres and African Ports & Corridors Holdings. He is a member of the executive committee of AIIM.

Ed has an MBA from INSEAD (France), a B. Com (Hons) from the University of Pretoria and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (United Kingdom).
