Biography

Sanjay Guglani is the Founder and CIO of Silverdale Funds, and heads Silverdale Capital Pte. Ltd, a Monetary Authority of Singapore authorised fund management company (AILFMC).

Sanjay manages over a dozen funds: Silverdale Bond Fund is a rare internally leveraged bond fund in the world. It invests into Investment Grade USD short duration bonds fund, returning 8%-9% per annum, making it Top Percentile bond fund, winning several accolades from HFM, Eurekahedge, AI Hedge Funds, Wealth & Finance, Investors’ Choice, etc. and being ranked by Bloomberg amongst Top-5 Asian Funds. Silverdale Fund of Indian Equity Funds is a pioneer fund of native Indian funds that have outperformed offshore India funds by margin of 50% to 100%. Silverdale Fund of Technology Funds, which has embedded capital protection as well as returns’ enhancement through use of leverage.

Earlier, as Managing Director of Silverdale Services Limited, United Kingdom, he channelized over US$ 4 billion of investments into emerging markets including USD$ 250 million of controlling stake investments in Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, India, etc. in joint venture with marquee investors such as Goldman Sachs, Lehman Bros, and Morgan Stanley. He was instrumental in creating offshore equity and credit derivatives market for mid-cap Indian corporates. His firm was consistently ranked amongst the Top 3 by Bloomberg, Reuters, Dealogic, etc. for maximum number of Indian convertible bonds (FCCB) and international equity (GDR) issuances. He also advised on Mergers & Acquisitions and on business structuring.

Sanjay started his entrepreneurial career as Founder-Managing Director of Saksham Group of Companies in India, which was then one of the largest proprietary/managed accounts fund manager in India. He established one of the largest wealth management companies in India, retailing unit funds and insurance products. He was also involved in various private equity transactions.

Prior to that, he was instrumental in setting up capital market ventures for GE Capital (then, SRF Finance) and in managing one of the largest cash-futures arbitrage (badla) books in India. He was also instrumental in creating (then) the largest retail Pass Through Certificate (PTC) issuance in India.

Sanjay started his professional career in 1990 by launching one of the first retail portfolio management schemes in India.

Sanjay has served on the National Advisory Committee on SMEs of India, taught at various Business Schools, and presented several technical papers at several forums, including at United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. By qualification, Sanjay is a Commerce Honors Graduate (Silver Medalist), a Chartered Accountant, a Management Accountant, a Company Secretary, and a Sloan Fellow of Management from London Business School (as British Chevening Scholar).
