Biography

Mr. Alex Alonso Contreras Miranda was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance of Perú in December 2022. He is an economic engineer from the National Engineering University of Peru (UNI), and holds a Master of Arts in Policy Economics from Williams College - USA.

Minister Contreras has more than 15 years of experience in public administration, in matters related to monetary and economic policy, and macroeconomic modeling. Previously, he served as Vice Minister of Economy since August 2021. Between January 2019 and August 2021, he was appointed General Director of the General Directorate of Macroeconomic Policy and Fiscal Decentralization of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Also, from 2007 to 2019 he held various positions at the Central Back of Peru (BCRP), including Chief of Monetary and Financial Statistics.

In the academic field, he has published various articles in national and foreign journals on subjects such as monetary policy, financial systems, banking regulation and real sector analysis. He has also been lecturer of Macroeconomics, Monetary Theory, Statistics and Econometrics at several universities in Peru.
